| People, language and religion | | The population of Australia is around 18 million, with the vast majority of people living in coastal regions. Now a diverse multicultural nation, the Australian population includes British, Irish, Greeks, Italians, Vietnamese and migrants from many other European and Asian nations, as well as some 350,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The official language in Australia is English and the predominant religion is Christianity. All major religions are represented and churches, mosques, temples and synagogues are located in most major cities. |
