|Fitzroy Falls is a small settled area found in Morton National Park in the southern highlands of New South Wales. It is named after the 81 metre waterfall which has good bushwalks and excellent facilities.
Morton Park features valleys, sandstone cliffs and a number of rivers including the Clyde, Kangaroo and Shoalhaven rivers which support a diversity of flora and fauna – giant turpentine trees, coachwood, honeyeaters, lorikeets, cormorants, grebes, bandicoots, dunnart and snakes and lizards.
The area around Fitzroy Falls is a sandstone plateau of woodland and light scrub.
There is some accommodation around Fitzroy Falls making it a pleasant weekend away for bushwalking with the promise of stunning scenery, wildlife and fresh air.
Fitzroy Falls is about 2 hours from Sydney or 45 minutes from Wollongong.
Things to do:
Fitzroy Falls Visitors Centre - open 7 days until 5 pm with café, toilet, BBQ and picnic area next to Yarrunga Creek. A small entry fee is required.
East Rim Walking Track - for views of and around the falls the East Rim Track is 3.5 km to the Valley Lookout or an easy walk 2 hours there and back. There is also a self-guided wildflower walk
West Rim Walking Track - one hour each way for views of Fitzroy Falls, Twin Falls, Grotto Falls and Lady Hordern Falls with a number of lookouts along the way.
Fitzroy Equestrian Centre - on Nowra Road
Highlands Berry Farm - for berries, jams and chutneys (November to April)
In the area:
Belmore Falls - take the turn-off from Nowra Road for a lookout that drops 100 metres into Barrengarry Creek Valley. Great for a picnic.
Kangaroo Valley - a picturesque
town with Pioneer Farm Museum, arts and crafts, pub and cafes.
Robertson - a quaint
township and major potato growing area on top of spectacular Macquarie Pass
