Originally part of East Malvern, Chadstone is now on the south-eastern border of the City of Stonnington which amalgamates some of Melbourne’s most select suburbs including South Yarra, Toorak, Glen Iris and Kooyong.
And as home to Victoria’s largest regional shopping centre at Chadstone, and boutique shopping strips on the likes of Chapel Street, Toorak Road, High Street and Glenferrie Road, this is serious, shop-till-you-drop territory.
It is also an area where food preparation and enjoyment is regarded as an art form and the city boasts almost 900 restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs. Many of the restaurants, cafes and food outlets are concentrated in the famous Prahran Market.
Stonnington takes its name from an historic mansion built in 1890 for founding partner of Cobb & Co, John Wagner. Stonnington House, in Malvern, has been home to seven Victorian Governors and is currently part of the Toorak campus of Deakin University.
