Probably Perth’s best-known and most popular metropolitan beach, about 10km west of the CBD, City Beach is full of upmarket homes which sprouted like mushrooms in the boom days of the 1970s.
Brash, bright, busy and breezy, the suburb of City Beach is bordered to the east by Wembley Downs Golf Course, the big recreation area of Bold Park and the two small Perry Lakes.
North and south are more beaches – including Scarborough, Trigg, Swanbourne and Cottesloe. So, if things aren't to your liking at one, just move on to the next.
These days the waterfront roads around here fairly bristle with eateries and watering holes. From City Beach it’s just a short drive or bus ride into the heart of Fremantle, Perth’s bustling, historic port city where there are even more sensational places to eat and drink.
‘Freo’, as the locals call it, has preserved many of its historic stone buildings, which lend even more atmosphere, especially to the harbour area where a fleet of fishing boats vie with million dollar cruisers and yachts to provide colour and movement on the water.
