Dapto and its neighbour, Albion Park, are gateways to one of the great scenic journeys into the Illawarra Range and beyond, via the Macquarie Pass, into the Southern Highlands.
You can either drive or take a singular train journey into this wonderland to the south-west of Sydney.
The route skirts the Macquarie Pass National Park, with links to Fitzroy Falls and their attendant reservoir and picnic reserve, before leading on to such picturesque Southern Highlands towns as Robertson, Kangaloo, Mittagong, Bowral, Berrima and Moss Vale.
Dapto is also just a few moments away from magnificent beaches and the aquatic playground of Lake Illawarra.
No matter whether you are hooked on conventional or board-sailing, cruising, canoeing, jet or water-skiing, fishing, prawning, swimming, surfing or the simple joys of beachcombing, the lake and coast bid you a warm welcome. The waters of Shellharbour on the southern fringes of the lake are popular with divers.
