On the south-western fringes of Mackay, Eton is not only handy to the tropical sugar capital itself, but is within easy striking range of the superb southern beaches of Sarina, Campwin and Salonika.
It is also within comfortable, cross-country driving distance of some of the Mackay area’s standout national parks, particularly Eungella to the north and Cape Palmerston to the south of Sarina. The two parks offer stark contrasts in landscape.
Perched high in the Clarke Range, Eungella preserves significant stands of central Queensland rainforest. On the other hand, Cape Palmerston protects one of the few remaining regional areas of undeveloped coastline features such as sand dunes, mangroves and swampland.
Cape Palmerston is accessible only by 4WD vehicles which will transport visitors to lookouts with breathtaking views and through melaleuca forest to abundant fishing grounds.
