Kandanga is one of a chain of small towns including Amamoor, Cedar Grove and Imbil which runs through Sunshine Coast hinterland state forests from Gympie to Lake Borumba.
The road is studded with picnic nooks, swimming holes, camp sites, spurs into the forest, and scenic lookouts. Lake Borumba offers plenty of scope for boating and waterskiing and is well stocked with golden perch. The lake’s fish stock and other regional waterways are replenished regularly from fledglings raised at the on-site hatchery.
The Bunya Art and Bush Tucker Centre on the Kandanga-Imbil Road will introduce you to local Aboriginal culture and food. The centre is located on a hilltop and a 360 degree views of the beautiful Mary Valley are a breathtaking bonus.
If you fancy sampling the local wines, the Dingo Creek Vineyard to the north-east of Kandanga and the Glastonbury Vineyard Resort to the west of Gympie will be happy to oblige.
