Graced with streets named after some of the world’s great racecourses and the great Todman, Kensington is home to one of the great Aussie tracks, Royal Randwick.
This is one of the few Sydney precincts where the horse still commands right-of-way and scant wonder. Some of the true blue champions of the Australian turf have walked these streets on their way from local stables to track - Tulloch, Kingston Town, Gunsynd and Saintly to name a few.
The suburbs of Kensington and Randwick also flank the NSW University campus, which embraces Australia's premier drama school, the National Institute of Dramatic Art, whose graduates include Mel Gibson and Judy Davis, the Australian Golf Club and Centennial Park.
Within comfortable walking distance, too, are the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Sydney Football Stadium, Fox Studios, historic Victoria Barracks and Paddington.
Fox Studios and the Entertainment Quarter, with its shops, cafes, entertainment and weekend markets, occupy the huge tract of land that was the home of the Royal Agricultural Society and the Easter Show for 120 years. The RAS headquarters are now based at Olympic Park.
