The Blue Mountains town of Leura features a charming main street, packed with cafes, restaurants, art and craft galleries and great shops selling unusual and interesting things.
A stroll up and down the street investigating all the shops and incorporating a food or drink stop will wile away a morning or an afternoon. Leuralla, one of the town’s premier mansions, houses the NSW Toy and Railway Museum. The toy displays are within the lovely old home, while the elegant grounds house an amazing collection of railway “bits and pieces”.
The town is near the Blue Mountains National park and there are lookouts and bushwalks close by. Leura features many beautiful gardens, some of which are privately owned but opened at various times of the year through the Open Garden scheme. Everglades features landscaping by pioneer Australian gardener, Paul Sorensen. The gardens and house are owned by the National Trust and are open for inspection all year.
