Uncrowned blue cheese capital of the West Gippsland, Neerim South is regarded as one of the best serviced towns of its size in Victoria. While it provides commercial services to the surrounding district, the pleasant town has a healthy mix of urban, rural and rural-residential zones, all of which are supported by well-appointed educational, health and sporting facilities, including an outdoor, heated swimming pool. There are relaxing picnic and barbecue spots at nearby Tarago Reservoir, while the multi-award winning Rainbow Deer Farm is close to town. Reservoir Hill offers fine views east across the Baw Baw and Moondarra parks to Walhalla. The Neerim Township Reserve is dominated by one of Victoria’s truly giant trees, a 68m tall mountain ash with a girth of 16.7m.You can sample the traminer, chardonnay, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon from vines only planted in 1991 at one of Australia's younger vineyards, Ada River, whose cellar door is open at weekends.
