This old, established suburb just three kilometres north of Perth’s CBD is a place of solid brick homes, many of which are undergoing extensive renovations in line with the nationwide trend toward close-to-the-city living. And, what a wonderful city for Perth is. Clean and crisp, it sits on the banks of the broad Swan River and from North Perth it’s just minutes into the heart of the city's restaurant district, centred on Northbridge and East Perth, and to the city centre, with it’s international-standard shopping facilities. Kings Park, which is one of Australia’s very best city parks, is perched on a hill overlooking the city and the river and is a short drive away from North Perth. And close by, too, is the oasis of Lake Monger. This central city park is an important bird sanctuary and throughout the year plays host to many and varied species. The 3.8km walking track encircling the lake gets a fair bit of traffic, especially at weekends.
