Home to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, the inner-western suburb of Hindmarsh lies just across the Torrens River from the celebrated Brickyard Markets. The weekend markets are a traditional hunting ground for both fresh food fanciers and browsers. Because it is within a brisk constitutional of the Adelaide CBD and the city’s magnificent parklands, cultural centres, the spectacular shopping malls, cafe strips and world-renowned restaurants, Hindmarsh is also a fascinating mix of sturdy old homes and well-appointed hotels and motels. The riverside, too, is a natural magnet for both power and recreational walkers. The Entertainment Centre is a core venue in every even numbered year for the Adelaide Festival of Arts which is recognised as one of the top three in the world. The first festival was held in 1960 and since then a parade of multi-talented directors have taken over the city every second March with a celebration of the theatre, dance, music and alternative art.
