•   Wrest Point Casino
With its magnificent harbourside location, Wrest Point has much to tempt the visitor. You can play the casino, enjoy one of the many bars and restaurants, catch a cabaret in the Showroom or bop `til you drop at the Nightclub.

•   Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery
Overlooking Constitution Dock this Museum and Art Gallery has a fine collection of landscape paintings, together with natural history and humanities collections. Admission is free though there can be charges for special exhibitions. Free guided tours are offered Wednesday to Sunday at 2.30pm.

•   Narryna Heritage Museum
Located in the historic suburb of Battery Point, the museum is housed in a Georgian building which is one of Hobart`s earliest colonial mansions. It features one of the oldest collections of early Tasmanian historical artefacts, including furniture, china, silver, costumes, embroidery and paintings.

•   Allport Library and Museum
Located on the ground floor of the State Library of Tasmania, this is an extraordinary collection of 18th and 19th century furniture, colonial paintings, silver and objets d`art, fine china and rare and antique books from over 100 years ago.

•   Runnymede
The National Trust property, Runnymede, is located to the north of the city in New Town. The fine Georgian building has been restored and both house and garden are open to the public.

•   Penitentiary Chapel & Criminal Courts
Built in 1831, this is one of Tasmania`s oldest and most historic buildings. It was built to be the chapel for the adjacent prisoners barracks, but in 1860 two wings of the building were converted for use as criminal courts. Daytime tours are conducted regularly or you can take the candlelit evening ghost tour, when you can see the tunnels, courtrooms, and gallows and hear stories about murders, grim executions, and strange happenings.

•   Tasmanian Parliament House
The public can watch proceedings on sitting days from the public gallery. On non-sitting days there are guided tours through the building which include both the Legislative Council and the Assembly Chamber.

•   John Elliott Classics Museum
This museum at the University of Tasmania is the only antiquities museum in Tasmania. Its outstanding collection showcases the art and culture of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, Greece, Etruria and Rome.

•   Rosny Historic Centre
Housed in the oldest rural homestead on Hobart`s eastern shore, this centre features a wide collection of antiques and memorabilia relating to the early settlement of Tasmania and colonial life.

•   Tasmanian Distillery and Museum
This distillery and museum are located in the historic Gasworks Shopping Village. If the distillery is operating, you can see the whisky-making process. The museum is open every day and the shop will sell you spirits at distillery door prices, plus liqueur chocolates, jams and other gourmet products.
