| Nowra to Ulladulla: The Shoalhaven Region |
Continuing from Kiama, the Princes Highway leads you to the fishing port of Ulladulla - via some short detours off the main road to white sandy beaches, lakes and small townships.
Head south on the Princes Highway until you reach the large town of Nowra. There are many attractions here - including the Australian Naval Aviation Museum at HMAS Albatross, Nowra Animal Park, the historic house of Meroogal, and cruises on the Shoalhaven River.
From Nowra, there’s a scenic detour along the river to Shoalhaven Heads, a great spot for fishing and exploring pristine Seven Mile Beach National Park. Continue south on the highway, and then take the turnoff to Huskisson, the main centre of the delightful Jervis Bay region. This vast bay and its small towns and villages is one of the region’s highlights - with dolphin watching cruises, walks in the Jervis Bay National Park, botanic gardens, diving, fishing and relaxing on the beach to enjoy. Nearby St Georges Basin and the village of Sussex Inlet are also worth a visit.
There is another enjoyable off-highway trip between here and Ulladulla. The village of Lake Conjola is the access point for a nature reserve, coastal walks and some great fishing and boating on the lake. You should also take time to stop off in the picturesque highway village of Milton. With its National Trust buildings, arts and crafts outlets, antique shops and cafes, this is the perfect spot for a break from the road.
Your ultimate destination, Ulladulla, offers plenty of facilities and attractions. The Funland theme park will keep children occupied, there are some great beaches and fishing, and you can enjoy a range of scenic walks and drives - while in the area, don’t miss a trip inland to spectacular Pigeon House Mountain.
