This is a region full of contrasts. You’ll find endless beaches of Busselton, dramatic coastlines and spectacular National Parks of Pemberton & Esperance to the goldrush frontier town of Kalgoorlie.
From Perth, head south through the picturesque estuaries of Mandurah and the historic coastal port of Bunbury. Arrive in the tranquil seaside town of Busselton mid afternoon. Explore the endless beaches, relax at one of the many boutique wineries or take a jetty train ride on the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. For the more adventurous dive on the world-class wreck of the HMAS Swan.
Continue through the world famous wine region of the South West on to the unique Karri Country of Pemberton. Here meander through the many local craft shops and admire the unique natural beauty of Beedelup National Park. Then follow the trail along to the beautiful Beedelup Falls, which takes in Loom Cascades and the swing bridge at the foot of the falls.
Pemberton’s most popular tourist attraction is the Gloucester Tree, with its lookout 61 m above ground. You can climb to the top via a hair-raising 153-rung ladder, made of bolts hammered into the tree.
Depart Pemberton for the town of Walpole which hosts the world famous Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk, a suspended track built 38m above the ground that runs for about 600 m through the treetops. Next stop, the historic seaside town of Albany. Don’t miss the unique opportunity to experience whale watching here between July and November.
Follow the spectacular coastline to the town of Esperance. Boasting some of the most beautiful and clearest waters in Australia, take in a swim or a stroll exploring this popular seaside town. Stroll the flawless white beaches and explore Cape Le Grand National Park and don’t miss Whistling Rock that, as the name suggests, actually whistles in certain wind conditions.
Take in the sights of Cape Le Grand and experience this barren country along the Coolgardie Esperance Highway through Norseman, the beginning of the Eyre Highway and on to Kalgoorlie, the historic mining town rich in traditions and gold. Kalgoorlie region is also known as ‘The Golden Mile’ and is thought to be the richest gold-bearing area in the world. Hannans North Tourist Mine, the museum of the Goldfields and the Bush Two Up School are all worth a visit.
To return to Perth, head east via Coolgardie, Southern Cross and through the bustling town of Northam.
